MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK +: Jahlil Beats “Legend Era”

This week’s MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK comes from Chester, Pennsylvania native Jahlil Beats.  Being one of the newest additions to the Roc Nation producer roster, Jahlil has made his name known with hit records, such as Chris Brown and Tyga’s “Holla At Me” and Meek Mill’s “Ima Boss.”

Jahlil’s production style has definitely progressed, with louder hi-hats and deeper bass drums.  Sonically, this is probably the best mixtape of the year!

Michael Jackson’s Starlight

Not very many people know how many mixes go into creating that “perfect” mix for an album.  Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller” is definitely one of those songs, which was originally titled “Starlight.”

So this Halloween include “Starlight” in your playlist, especially if you’re having a Halloween party, and watch all your friends trip out when they realize it’s not “Thriller.”

Below is a video of Bruce Swedien, Michael Jackson’s mixer and engineer, explaining some of the processes behind the making of “Thriller.”  I’ve also included “Starlight” for your enjoyment.

Peace Ya’ll  & Happy Halloween

MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK +: Taz Arnold- “Rad America”

This week’s MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK + is up.  “Rad America” by Taz Arnold is a psychedelic soundscape that is not for the average music listener, but if you are the average music listener then I challenge you to listen to this mixtape.  My favorite and in my opinion the best track from this tape is “Let Me See (What You On Girl).”  This track has a jazzy feel reminiscent of 90’s backpack rap.  Regardless, if you are an artistic, creative individual who can appreciate art in its many forms, then you will appreciate this music.

MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK +: Hit Boy- “HITstory”

This week I’m bringing you a mixtape that was released at the beginning of August from one a G.O.O.D. Music’s newest producers, Hit Boy.  Hit Boy hails from the Inland Empire region of Southern California, and since his work on Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Niggas In Paris” he has been blowing up, but his career didn’t start there.  I’ll be doing a future post chronicling Hit Boy’s history in the rap game, for now let’s focus on the mixtape.  This mixtape showcases his producing and rapping skills to their fullest.  While Hit Boy’s rapping isn’t the greatest, it’s not bad either and I’m looking forward to seeing how he improves on his rap skills.  The more important reason for listening to this mixtape would be for the production value.  When you listen, you start to realize why Kanye signed this musician to his label…his soundscapes are flawless.  I hope you enjoy this mixtape as much as I did.

Business Cards: Easy Step to Looking Professional

I received some brand new business cards in the mail today to make it easier for me to exchange contact information when I am talking to other business people, professionals, employers, or potential customers.  I can’t stress enough how important it is to have business cards in order to make yourself standout and look professional in this rough economy.  It surprises me when I meet other young business people such as myself who are looking for employment and/or call themselves professionals, yet they do not have a simple business card.  How do you expect to compete among the countless other Business School graduates in this country and around the world without this simple and easy to make tool.  In fact, it doesn’t matter what you studied in college or what professional field you are working in, YOU NEED BUSINESS CARDS…PERIOD!  So I am suggesting that if you do not have business cards, make some!
